Season, Registration, and Practices

Our 2011 - 2012 folkstyle season practices begin Tuesday October 11, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. All wrestlers and parents should attend that practice. We will have aparents meeting that night. Registration for the 2011-2012 folkstyle season begins October 1st and continues throughout the season. The folkstyle season typically ends about mid February with the State Championships. We continue practices after the State Championship for our more dedicated wrestlers competing in Middle School Duels and other late season national tournaments. This season as a general rule, the Little Guys and Beginners will practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. and Advanced/Open Group will practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All practices are held in the Cinco Ranch High School wrestling room at 23440 Cinco Ranch Boulevard. Enter the door just west of the gymnasium. We may also have some practices or clinics on Saturdays when we are not participating in tournaments. Check the website or with Coach Koger concerning Saturday clinics and practices.
If your child participates in football or fall baseball and the season overlaps, do not worry. Tournament participation is voluntary. Additionally, we work to bring late starters quickly up to speed. We generally run a Saturday clinic for our football players once football season ends. Wrestling is tremendous “off season” training for those athletes who participate in other sports.
Freestyle and Greco Roman seasons begin after folkstyle season ends in about March.

Tournaments

Our first tournament is typically the first Saturday of November. There will be a tournament most Saturdays during the season. Most tournaments are local. There are, however occasions that the team will travel. Check back on our website for the detailed tournament schedule with dates and locations.
Participation in tournaments is strictly voluntary. Most local youth tournaments do not keep team points. Therefore if a wrestler cannot attend any particular tournament it does not affect the team. For this reason we also encourage athletes in other sports (i.e. football or fall baseball) with a season that ends after wrestling season begins to still join the club after their other season ends.
