Wrestling is mankind’s oldest and most basic form of recreational combat, has a distinguished history and is even referenced in cave drawings. Bronze figures dating earlier than 2500 B.C. depicting wrestlers have been found in Mesopotamia. Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, pre-Olympic Greek literature, contain several descriptions of wrestling. Olympic wrestlers were living legends in ancient Greece and wrestling continues to be a popular Olympic sport.
The Ranch Wrestling Club is dedicated to teaching boys and girls ages 5 through 18 to wrestle. We teach folkstyle, freestyle and Greco styles of wrestling. This is not the “professional wrestling” seen on late night television. Wrestlers compete against opponents in their own age and weight brackets, so there is no concern about being too small or competing against much older or stronger opponents. Wrestling is unique among modern sports in that a person does not need to be genetically gifted with a particular size to effectively compete. Currently the smallest weight bracket in collegiate wrestling is the 125-pound bracket and the largest is 285 pounds. There are eight (8) other weight divisions in between those two. Texas Youth Wrestling also includes Rookie and Novice divisions for those wrestlers just beginning their journey. Wrestling is a safe, rigorous athletic competition that instills ethics of hard work, discipline and resilience in those soles brave enough to compete.
